The Olympics are just around the corner. Today I want to talk about good manners and courtesy.
We Chinese have always been respected and highly praised for good manners and courtesy which have as well become precious traditions of our people. In a couple of weeks beyond a large number of foreign friends will come to China to join us in enjoying the Olympics.
Before foreign guests we should have an easy manner and behave politely and warm-heartedly.
In public places such ugly behaviors as uproar pushing or squeezing together spitting and so on should be determinedly forbidden. In a sense each of us will not simply stand for ourselves but stand for China.
Therefore boys and girls let’s do it well right now and the eyes of the world are to on us!
on my birthday two years ago, many special things happened on me. and i would
remember them forever.
that morning, i rode my bike to school happily as usual. on my way to the
classroom, i saw some of my classmates. but when they saw me, they rushed away. that made me confused. because they would talk to me or play jokes on me before. but it was strange today.
when i came into the classroom, i found the atmosphere was quite strange.
everybody looked at me and laughed loudly. suddenly they all said in good order,“happy birthday to you!” then they began to sing “happy birthday to you~~~~~~” that made me moved. i never told anyone about my birthday, how did they know? i believed they must have done a lot of things. at that moment, i found nothing to say but thanks instead!
after school, a thing coming as a surprise happened on me on my way back home. when i was riding suddenly a crowed of people rushed out to stopped my bike.i recogized them at once. they were my senior classmates. they all comlained to me,“why don't you tell us about your birthday? don't you fear that we will let you stand treat? this time you owe us.” then each of them gave a gift and a card with best wishes to me. i was deeply moved again. i suggested having a dinner together. but they all refused because of the time. then they left me saying we would ask you to pay us another day!
when i got back home, i thought of everything happened today. suddenly i felt so happy because i had such great friends around me. i thanked them from the bottom of my heart. i would value the precious friendship forever!
i have so many feelings through that special day. the only rose without thorns in the world is friendship. a true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart. truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. one friend in a lifetime is much, two are many, three are hardly possible. stick to make friends, forlife without friends is like life on a desert island. to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune, to keep him is a blessing.
thank you for your attention!
Between the preparation and the work, the apprenticeship and the actualdealing with a task or an art, there comes, in the experience of many young men, aperiod of uncertainty and wandering which is often misunderstood and counted astime wasted, when it is, in fact, a period rich in full and free development.
It is as natural for ardent and courageous youth to wish to know what is inlife, what it means, and what it holds for its children,as for a child to reachfor and search the things that surround and attract it.Behind every real workerin the world is a real man, and a man has a right to know the conditions underwhich he must live, and the choices of knowledge, power, and activity which areoffered him.In the education of many men and women, therefore, there comes theyear of wandering;the experience of traveling from knowledge to knowledge andfrom occupation to occupation.
The forces which go to the making of a powerful man can rarely be adjustedand blended without some disturbance of relations and conditions.Thisdisturbance is sometimes injurious, because it affects the moral foundationsupon which character rests;and for this reason the significance of theexperience in its relation to development ought to be sympatheticallystudied. The birth of the imagination and of the passions, the perception of therichness of life, and the consciousness of the possession of the power to masterand use that wealth, create a critical moment in the history of youth,—a momentricher in possibilities of all kinds than comes at any later period.
Agitation and ferment of soul are inevitable in that wonderful moment.Thereare times when agitation is as normal as is self-control at other and lesscritical times. The year of wandering is not a manifestation of aimlessness, butof aspiration, and that in its ferment and uncertainty youth is often guided toand finally prepared for its task.
Our common destiny
“ We are made wise not by the recollections of the past but by our responsibility for the future”
----George Bernard Shaw
China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century. In order to ensure the prosperity of our nation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.
Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal. These include environmental degradation, over population and the effects of globalization.
To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:
Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio- tech, AI and Cybernetics.
Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions.
Promote education reform at all levels.
Introduce sustainable development initiatives.
The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.
The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching. It is important to realize that these initiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China. For instance, cutting edge technologies and intellectual properties; the development of e-commerce based economy; an education system that encourages innovation and creativity; increased foreign investment; higher living standards; more efficient use of natural resources.
It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary. These will help China to fulfill its vast and unrealized potential on the world stage. It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century.
As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.
China has 5000 years history, People called China 'A country of polite'. Chinese people are always very friendly and kind, but what you should pay attention to is that Chinese people also has their own ways to get on with others. When you meet a Chinese, if you want to start a talking with him or her, you'd better ask like this;Have you eat your meal? But not like English people:What's the weather?' You can also shake hands with Chinese people when you first meet him. When you having a meal with Chinese people , the most important thing you should pay attention to is do not put the chopstickes into the bowl, because Chinese people don't think it's good. In China 8 and 6 are the most popular number, because they means earn money and lucky in China. China really has lots of polity cultures, They are waiting for you to find.
I believe in our future
Honorable Judges, fellow students:
Good afternoon!
Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?
The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort. But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money.
The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.
As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.
youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind. it is not a matter ofrosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees. it is a matter of the will, a quality ofthe imagination, vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springof life.
youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of theappetite for adventure over the love of ease. this often exits in a man of 60,more than a boy of 20. nobody grows merely by the number of years;we grow old bydeserting our ideas. years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasmwrinkles the soul.
worry, fear, self-distrust1 bows the heart and turns the spirit back todust. whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure ofwonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the gameof living.
in the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; solong as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from menand from infinite, so long as you are young. when the aerials are down, and yourspirit is covered with the snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, thenyou've grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up.
There will be a speech on our school playground this Saturday afternoon, whose theme is “To civilize schoolyard is my responsibility”。All the teachers and students are required to attend. In the activity, the first two winners in each grade will give such valuable advice as follows: we should not litter anywhere in order to keep our campus clean; we should love flowers, grass and trees so that everyone can enjoy the greenness; we should behave well instead of running after one another, quarreling and fighting noisily; we should care for others so that our school will be full of love. We believe our school will become more and more beautiful and peaceful.
Good manners are very important in the communication of daily life. Everyone likes a person with good manners. But what are good manners?
How does one know what should do and what should not do when trying to be a good - mannered person?
Well here are some common examples. A person with good manners never laughs at a people in trouble. Instead he (she) always tries to consult or offer help to the person.
When he (she) takes a bus and sees an old man or a sick man he (she) always gives his (her) seat to him. He doesn't interrupt other people when they are talking.
He uses a handkerchief when he sneezes or coughs. He does not spite in public places.
Ideas of what are good manners are not always the same in different regions. For example people in Western countries usually kiss each other to show their greetings whereas in China kissing in public is something of unusual and sometimes be regarded as impolite to somebody else.
So it is important to know what is regarded as polite and impolite before you go to a region.
But remember that it is always right to be kind and helpful to others.
Recently graffiti has become more noticeable in my college. I feel quite annoyed at them, especially when some of my classmates praise them as a kind of so-called art. Confronted with this impolite phenomenon, I can’t help asking myself: what is wrong with today’s teenagers?
In my opinion, graffiti is a form of vandalism. They are a mess and are ugly to look at. Meanwhile, walls are public places, and they should not be used to express personal views and feelings.
I really think vandalism should be stopped, and those who refuse to stop this bad practice should be punished. We should clear away these ugly expressions and drawings so that our college may return to its true self--a clean, quiet place for study, teaching and research.
it is true that most of us value honesty highly. however, nowadays we often confront confidence crisis such as cheating, overcharging, fake commodities and so on. i think that we should be honest because being honest is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to others and the whole society. the reasons can be listed as follows.firstly, only honest people can be truly respected by the others and can make more friends over a long period of time.
secondly, honesty, which is the traditional virtue of the chinese people, can make our life easier and more harmonious. thirdly, honesty can make our society more stable. a case in point is that singapore, a society featuring trustworthiness and integrity, has a comparatively low criminal rate.
responsbility can be understood in many ways. for the parents , they have had the responsibility for caring for and fostering their children since the birth of their baby.for teachers, both in kindergartens and colleges, they also should be responsible for the study and life of their students, that is to say, teahers are the second parents of children somewhile.
for us,as a friend of others,it is our responsibility to help our friends when they are in trouble or faced with difficulties. each one has the different responsibily based on their roles but we must take it for granted that we are responsible for the society.
My definition of success
Today I am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. What is success? It is what everyone is longing for.Sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now I am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.
However, as a person’s whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, I don’t think so. I believe success is the realization of people’s hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people
who are regarded as the successful. And the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. But the problem is wether it is real success. We all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real Success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people’ hopes and ideals.
Different people have different ideas about success; cause people’s hopes and ideas vary from one another. But I am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. These are the best treasures. So now I am very proud that I have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. It is my success, cause I raise up to challenge my hope.
What is success? Everyone has his own interpretation as I do. But I am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. So ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!
Wish you all good success!
