Dear Tom,
It’s a long time since we met last time and I miss you very much. hanks for your invitation. However, I regret to tell you that I can’t travel o America this winter holiday for some unavoidable reasons.
First of all, it’s the coming of the Spring Festival that makes me refer to stay at home rather than take a travel to America. As far as
we Chinese are concerned, the Spring Festival is a family time treasured
by us all. What’s more, the College Entrance Examination is coming. So
significant is it to me that I will attend some tutorial classes during this
winter holiday for some of my weak divisions. Taking all the above
factors into consideration, I have to say sorry again
Anyway, shall I make it after the Exam? I will appreciate it if you
can be my guide at the time. Yours
Li Hua

Dear Tom,
I’m very sorry that I can’t go on a trip to Beijing with you next weekend, which I have promised you. I’m writing to tell you the reason for it.(topic)
Just now, my cousin, Li Ming, who went abroad for further education last year, informed me that he would return the next Saturday morning. He asked me to pick him up at the airport with his parents. As you know, we haven’t seen each other for about a year, so I’ll have to help him in the first place.
I really hope that you can accept my apologies and understand me. I would appreciate it if you allow me to fix another time to show you around some places of interest in Beijing. Wish you have a good time this weekend!
Yours, Li Ming
Because of losing a borrowed book
Dear Frank:
I am terribly sorry to tell you that I have lost the valuable book you were so kind to lend me last week. I read it everyday and intended to finish it next month. Last night when I came to my room, it was nowhere to be found. I will try to recover it as soon as possible. If I fail to find it, I will get a new book for you. But I am afraid it can never take the place of the old one. Old books are like old friends. Once lost, they can never be replaced. They are connected with cherished associations which the new ones can never have. And for this irrecoverable loss, I am to blame. I was so careless with my things. This is a warning to me to be more careful in the future.
Yours truly,
Tom

Dear Susan
I’m awfully sorry I forgot to meet you at the railway station yesterday.
We had an end-of-term party in our dormitory the night before.
I was so proud of the final exam results that I drank like a fish all night.
I felt dizzy all day yesterday and had little sense of what I should do.
It was in the evening that I realized I forgot to meet you at the railway station.
Since then, I’ve tried to call you several times, but I feel you are still angry with me and wouldn’t answer my phone call.
I promise this will not happen and wish you would forgive me.
Love James
Dear Sir or Madame,
As one of the regular customers of your online store, I am writing this letter to express my complaint against the flaws in your product—an electronic dictionary I bought in your shop the other day.
The dictionary is supposed to be a favorable tool for my study.
Unfortunately, I found that there are several problems.
To begin with, when I opened it, I detected that the appearance of it had been scratched.
Secondly, I did not find the battery promised in the advertisement posted on the homepage of your shop, which makes me feel that you have not kept your promise.
What is worse, some of the keys on the keyboard do not work.
I strongly request that a satisfactory explanation be given and effective measures should be taken to improve your service and the quality of your products.
You can either send a new one to me or refund me my money in full.
I am looking forward to your reply at your earliest convenience.Sincerely yours,Li Hua
dear sarah,
i am terribly sorry to tell you that i am unable to attend your birthday part next thursday evening. that is owing to the fact that my younger brother suddenly fell ill and was taken to a hospital this morning. i have to go there immediately and take care of him. as told by the doctor in charge, it will take around five days for him to recover and i have asked my boss for a leave.
i really regret that i cannot go to celebrate your birthday personally and would miss the perfect chance of enjoying myself with all our old friends. i have chosen a small gift for you and will send it to you tomorrow to show my best wishes. besides, please give my regards to our friends when you meet them at the party. cordially,
li ming
Unable to return borrowed book on time
Dear Kate:
Excuse me for my long delaying in returning to you your “Robinson Crusoe” which I read through with great interest. I had finished reading the book and was about to return it when my cousin came to see me. Never having seen the book, She was so interested in it that I had to retain it longer. However, I hope that in view of the additional delight thus afforded by your book, you will overlook my negligence in not returning it sooner.
Thanking you again for the loan.
Sincerely yours,
Tom
