Frank:I’m sorry, I’m afraid you’ve dialed the wrong number. There is no Patti here。
Jane:Wrong number? Are you sure? I called yesterday and she was there。
Frank:I’m sure you have the wrong number. This one has been my number for more than 20 years。
Jane:That’s impossible. I remember the number clearly. Isn’t this 763-4565?
Frank:No, it isn’t. It’s 736-4565. It seems you’ve misdialed。
Jane:Really? I’m so sorry I bothered you. I’ll try again。
Frank:That’s all right. This sort of thing happens all the time to everyone。
Jane:Yeah, I guess it does. Sorry again for bothering you。
Frank:No worries。

M:Good evening, Salia. What's that wonderful aroma from your kitchen? What are you doing now?
F:I am cooking now!
M:Are you good at cooking?
F:I have studied its skills recently at a training school. I plan to run a restau-rant,so I have to practise cooking!
M:It is a good idea. What dish are you cooking now?!
F:I am steaming fish in a pressure cooker. Have you ever tried steamed fish?
M:Yes,I have. But the taste of steamed fish at that restaurant is not delicious. The fish is not well-done and too salty.
F:That's the case. I think there is not enough time to steam it and soy sauce is too much.
M:I have the same idea as yours.
F:It's OK. Please have a taste of it.
M:Thank you. Oh,it's very delicious.
F:Thank you for your praise.
M:Besides steamed fish, what else are you good at cooking?
F:I am good at stewing beef with potato, frying chicken, hot and sour soup etc.

F:Why not? It is a good opportunity for me to practise cooking.
M:Thanks a lot.
F:It's my pleasure.
Todd: Hey, Mark I saw that you're reading a bookout there.
Mark: Yeah, that's right.
Todd: So, do you read a lot?
Mark: Yeah, I read a lot. In fact I don't have a television.
Todd: Ah, you're the man.
Mark: Seriously, I only read.
Todd: Wow, how many books do you get through a week?
Mark: A week! Ah, at least one a week, because I work all the time.
Todd: Oh, that's pretty good.
Mark: Yeah, but I enjoy reading because television doesn't give you imagination, yeah I preferreading.
Todd: Yeah, I hear you. It rots your mind, I think. Ah, also, what kind of books you like toread? What kind of genres?
Mark: Well, let's see, I've got a lot of nonfiction, a lot of comedy.
Todd: Cool, so actually, when you read, like where do you normally read?
Mark: Where do I normally read? On the trains, actually. I'm always reading on the trains. Iread because I'm always traveling to work. A lot of pleasure.
And it's funny because I meet people on the trains when I'm reading, they look over at mybook.
Todd: That's cool. I love to read on the trains.
Linda:Hello! Who is speaking?
John:Hello! This is John. I want to speak to Linda。
Linda:This is her。
John: Hi, Linda. I’m just calling to invite you to a dinner party tomorrow evening。
Linda:Really? What time and where?
John: 7:30 pm, at Longding Chinese restaurant. I’ll be at your place at 7:00 to pick you up if you need a ride。
Linda:Yes, please. I’ll need a ride. I’ll be waiting for you then。

你好!
Christian: Hello!
你好!

我叫Christian.

Christian: I'm from Norway.
Todd: Norway!
Christian: Yeah!
Todd: Wow, what city in Norway?
Christian: It's called Proshkura.
Proshkura.
Todd: Porshkura.
Proshkura?
Christian: Yes, it's close to the capital city, Oslo. About 150 kilometers south of Oslo.
Todd: How many people live in this city?
Christian: In my city, 35,000 people.
Todd: Oh, really. (Yeah) Oh, wow. That's pretty small.
Christian: Pretty small. The biggest city in Norway is Oslo and it has 500,000 people.
Todd: That's the biggest!
Christian: That's the biggest. In total, we have 4 and half million people in Norway.
Todd: That must be nice being from a small country, I mean big in land but small in people.
Christian: It's nice. It's not as crowded as Tokyo to put it that way.
Todd: Yeah, so Tokyo's what, three times the people.
Christian: Three times the population of the country, yeah.
Todd: Wow. That's crazy. So what's the best thing about Norway?
Christian: The best thing about Norway, the clean air, the blond girls, and the mountains.
Todd: Do you go in the mountains a lot? Do you mountain climb or hike?
Christian: I ski. I ski as often as I can. Probably once a year I go, try to go skiing when I home, and it's great, I enjoy it, I've been doing it all my life so, yeah.
Todd: So this is downhill skiing.
Christian: Downhill skiing, yeah.
Todd: Do you ever do cross-country skiing?
Christian: Sometimes, I used to do a lot of cross-country skiing when I was younger, but as Igot older, it was more downhill skiing. It's a bit easier. Less physical.
Todd: OK, thanks Christian.
Christian.
F:Won't you have some of this
M:Yes 。thanks.
F:It's my grandmother's favorite recipe for barbecue.
M:It's very good. How do you make it?
F:I use a special dressing and homemade catsup.
M:This salad looks so nice-just right for a hot day.
F:I'm glad you like it.

M:You Americans usually have nutritious food.
F:Oh,but Chinese food is so delicious.I wish I knew how to cook Chinese food. Do you follow recipes?
M:We use different spices but few people use recipes. They learn to cook by experience.
F:I always use a recipe but my grandmother never did. She was a great cook. She would make clam chowder and cornbread every Sunday night.
